Mumbai Mayor Urges Residents to Enjoy Monsoon Responsibly as IMD Maintains Rain Alerts Across Maharashtra

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawade has urged residents to enjoy the city's monsoon responsibly while following all safety norms as the India Meteorological Department continues issuing weather alerts. Heavy rainfall, gusty winds, above-normal precipitation forecasts, and changing weather systems are expected to keep Maharashtra under active monsoon conditions throughout the week.

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawade has urged residents to enjoy the city's monsoon while strictly following safety guidelines, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to issue weather alerts amid persistent heavy rainfall across Maharashtra.

Responding to questions about the repeated monsoon warnings, Tawade said such alerts are a routine feature of the rainy season and should not discourage people from appreciating Mumbai's monsoon. She said, "It's the rainy season now, so there will be a yellow alert, a red alert, and an orange alert. Mumbai's rain is beautiful. People should enjoy it but follow all the safety rules and norms."

Her remarks came as heavy rain and gusty winds continued to affect Mumbai over the past few days. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city, while the water level in Tansa Lake has reached 62 percent of the reservoir's total storage capacity, reflecting the impact of the ongoing rainfall.

According to the IMD, an active western disturbance is currently influencing weather conditions over northwest India, with another western disturbance expected to affect the region later this week. The weather agency has forecast above-normal rainfall accompanied by fairly widespread to widespread precipitation across Maharashtra throughout the week.

The IMD further stated that the monsoon trough is expected to shift southward and remain close to its normal position for most of the week. In addition, a weak offshore trough at mean sea level is likely to extend from south Gujarat to Karnataka during parts of the week, contributing to the prevailing weather conditions over Maharashtra.

For Mumbai, west-southwesterly winds are expected to prevail with speeds reaching up to 29.6 kilometres per hour. The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall ranging between 5 and 15 millimetres per hour. The city's minimum temperature is expected to remain around 26 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to touch 29 degrees Celsius. A generally cloudy sky is forecast to persist throughout the day.

As Maharashtra continues to witness active monsoon conditions, the IMD's weather advisories remain crucial for public safety. While authorities expect the rainfall to continue over the coming days, residents have been urged to remain vigilant, follow official safety protocols, and exercise caution while enjoying Mumbai's iconic monsoon season.
